Family Fun & Learning Day 2009, Sept. 16

The Ohio Library for the Blind & Physically Disabled (OLBPD) is pleased to announce that our annual Family Fun & Learning Day will take place on Wednesday, September 16th, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Family Fun & Learning Day will be held at the Cleveland Public Library’s Memorial-Nottingham Branch, 17109 Lake Shore Boulevard, Cleveland, Ohio 44110. Chicago Lighthouse Provides Blind People Toll-Free Tech Support

The Chicago Lighthouse assistive technology support line is available to any blind person in the U.S. needing help with their assistive technology. The help line is also available to those who help blind people that need assistance with adaptive technology, such as employers, teachers, libraries, and counselors. The Chicago Lightouse assistive technology support line is toll free 1-888-825-0080.

New Playaway Catalog Available

Cleveland LBPH continues to add and build on its collection of Playaway digital audio books. Playaway books are self-playing digital audio books that are portable and pre-loaded. National Library Service's New Digital Talking Book System

The National Library Service for the Blind & Physically Handicapped will begin to issue a new talking book system based on digital talking books in 2008. This new digital talking book system will replace the existing cassette-based talking book system. The National Library Service has posted a page with information about the new talking book system, including pictures and descriptions.
